Srinagar, Jan 24 (KNO): A day after snowfall disrupted air traffic and grounded several flights, normal operations resumed at the Srinagar International Airport on Saturday morning, officials said.
They said, however, six flights to and from Delhi were cancelled due to temporary airspace restrictions imposed in connection with the Republic Day celebrations.
An airport official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the cancellations were caused by a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) at the Delhi Airport, effective from 10:20 am to 12:45 pm.
“Except for the six cancellations due to the NOTAM at Delhi Airport, flight operations were later returned to normal, with aircraft from different parts of the country arriving and departing as per schedule,” he said.
The official advised passengers to check with their respective airlines for real-time flight updates before heading to the airport.
Earlier, the IAF lifted restrictions after the AAI and BRO cleared snow from the apron and taxiways. “Indian Air Force has lifted the NOTAM for commercial operations. Airports Authority of India, in close coordination with BRO, has successfully cleared the apron and taxiways. A joint inspection is currently underway, and flight operations are expected to resume shortly, subject to safety clearance. Passengers are advised to stay in touch with their respective airlines for the latest updates,” Srinagar Airport Tweeted on X (formerly Twitter).
Following the situation in a fresh tweet, the authorities shared the information of the first flight arriving in the Valley. “A smooth landing at 1100 hrs. Srinagar Airport welcomes its first flight of the day. All is normal now — the big bird has returned to the Valley,” another tweet read.
It is worth mentioning that on Friday, more than a dozen flights were cancelled due to low visibility and runway closure following the season’s first snowfall, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded—(KNO)
